My New Year’s Eve OOTN 2019

Helloooooo! I hope everyone’s 2019 is going great so far. Sticking to my blogging resolutions has been hard but when I see myself fall, it’s not difficult to pick back up again instead of completely give up. I wore this fun outfit on New Year’s Eve but didn’t get the quality photos I wanted to share so I re-shot them a few weeks later. I know that, it being mid-February, that NYE outifts are totally irrelevant now BUT, I loved this fit so much I couldn’t NOT share.

These sequin joggers are from Dolls Kill and they are so sick. They change colors depending on what light is shining on them and they reflect little circles everywhere. I paired them with a plain black mesh top with my H&M X Moschino bra underneath for a pop of fun.

Modern Canadian Tuxedo

One of my absolute favorite things to do is to create a denim Canadian tuxedo. All you need is a good denim jacket and blue jeans. However, I did not bring any of my denim jackets to Italy with me and I have so many at home, buying another one sounded kind of ridiculous. I did stumble upon this fringe crop top while out shopping in Florence and had the idea! It came with the white tee underneath and I paired it with jeans and wow- a modern, Canadian tux!

Streetwear Pink

After going to Milan for Fashion Week (see my recap here) I was so inspired by the street style I wanted to up my own. I impulsively bought an Off White industrial belt and never looked back. This is by far the best thing I have purchased in a long time. It makes a lot of my outfits more put together and gives them an edgier, more streetwear feel. I have been intrigued with this brand for a while now and am happy with my purchase. Would definitely recommend.

I styled this look two different ways; one with the blazer under the belt, and the other with the belt under the blazer. I have the matching pink pants to this blazer to form a full co-ord suit but wanted to make it a bit more funky so I added the red leopard pants instead. I threw on my favorite, all black, Fila Disruptor II’s and was ready to go.

Milan, Italy – MILAN FASHION WEEK |9/20/18 – 9/23/18

I am so thankful that I am living in Italy in general but extremely lucky to be here while fashion month is happening. I decided to head to Milan for the weekend during official Milan Fashion Week to check everything out and see if I could get into any shows or events. Milan is about an hour and a half train ride from Florence so after class on Thursday afternoon I headed there immediately.

I learned so much on this trip about fashion week and myself and was constantly inspired by outrageously chic, and extraordinary street style.

DAY 2

For my first Milan Fashion Week outfit, I went for an edgy, bohemian vibe. I love the flowy rust colored dress mixed with the harsh black accents. The lightweight fabric of this midi was absolutely necessary for the sweltering heat we encountered on this day. I would have preferred to carry a black purse but for this fit but, I chose function over fashion and needed some more storage in my bag of choice.

Our first full day in Milan, we headed out for the city centre where the famous Milan Cathedral, or Milano Duomo, is located. Since we weren’t invited to any shows or events we kind of just relaxed and tooled around Milan. We stumbled upon an event that Vogue Italia was putting on near the Brera district and that was free to the public. They were showcasing student fashion designers’ creations in a showroom type setting. It was really unique to see young artists’, like myself, work.

Later, we found the official list of showtimes and locations and basically just stood around outside and pretended to look like we knew what we were doing. Street style photographers shot us in our outfits and I even got interviewed by Amazon Prime’s only fashion network, FNL.

DAY 2

My second and most favorite look I wore for Milan Fashion week is the one below. I am obsessed with the monochrome color suit look. If you know me, or have been following me for a while, you know that I love black and neutrals but have been trying to branch out. This corduroy suit was one of my best Zara finds to date. It’s bold and makes me feel confident. I was determined to wear this to MFW despite the hot weather but thankfully it did cool down a bit and we had a nice breeze.

These photos I took the night before because of how excited I was about my yellow suit. AAANNDDDD the hotel I stayed at (Hotel Cinque Giornate) had matching curtains so I couldn’t say no to a self timer photoshoot!

During day 2 of MFW, we had a more relaxed day and just enjoyed Milan. We did wait outside of one show and got photographed which was nice and it was so inspiring to see others’ street style. This trip has made me want to restart my whole wardrobe, yet again.

DAY 3

I’ve worn this pink python jumpsuit from Free People so so many times before but Milan has never seen it so I brought her back out! Outfit repeater always.

If you plan on going to a fashion capitol during fashion week, my best advice to you is to be bold; not only in your style but in the way you act and present yourself. Obviously the way you dress is extremely important, I mean it is fashion week, but if you present yourself as a confident individual who seems to know what they’re doing (even if you don’t) you will be noticed by others.

Don’t be shy to ask the person at the door if there is any way you can watch the show or if they need volunteers or really anything at all. Talk to photographers and reporters and, this sounds bad, but shove your name down peoples throats. Name recognition is one of the most important things in the fashion industry and you should be confident in telling people who you are. I handed out so many business cards to people because you never know who someone is going to be.

Another random thing you can do is pretend to be a photographer or reporter. I did this and after I took a photo of someone, I briefly introduced myself and gave them my card. Like I said, you never know who you’re going to meet.

I learned a lot about myself and my passion on this trip and although I didn’t get into any shows, I now know more of what to expect and what to do better hopefully next time I have an opportunity like this.

Florence, Italy – Study Abroad : Week 2

Hello hello! I have been meaning to post this for a while now I’ve just been so busy keeping up with classes and enjoying Europe I didn’t want to get too caught up on the internet!

My second official week in Florence, Italy meant starting school! I am attending Accademia Italiana and studying fashion communications. My classes are absolutely amazing and all of my professors are industry professionals. I am taking window display and design, fashion photography, history of 20th century fashion, art history, and of course, Italian! The campus is gorgeous and I love going to school with not just study abroad students, but people from all around the world.

Vintage shopping – wearing a vintage Just Cavalli fur floor length coat. (no, I did not purchase unfortunately)

I don’t have classes on Friday which is so so nice! My school does this because there are so many study abroad students who want to use the weekends to travel. I spent my Friday exploring the city! I really just tooled around by myself to get familiar with how the city works. I also briefly popped in to the Gucci Gardens and had a great solo lunch!

These are the two bags I purchased at the leather market! They are genuine and beautiful and the best part, were very inexpensive!

A lot of the pieces that are sold in this market are similar to high end designer goods.

It’s hard being a college student with minimal funds for designer items but buying similar things for a lot cheaper is definitely hopeful and exciting.

My Favorite Dress

Ciao!

I have officially made it to Florence, Italy and have had a wonderful first few days here. I wasn’t originally going to post these photos to the blog but I am so in love with this dress, I just absolutely had to.

This For Love and Lemons Dress is my most favorite piece I own and I made the decision of not bringing it to Italy with me. I only wanted to pack practical clothing that I could mix and match with lots of outfits while still leaving room for some new things.

Of course, before I parted ways with this dress, I had a mini backyard photoshoot in it!

Ciao for now

See you soon, Kansas City

Hi!!!

I have officially left for my big adventure to Florence, Italy for school! (this post was written prior to leaving but I scheduled it so it would post while I was in the air) My last blog post in Kansas City for a few months does mean a lot to me. I love this city with all of my heart and have spent my entire life here. Every single person I have met here has been so kind and so supportive. This city is growing everyday and has so so much to offer. I am thankful to be apart of this community and I most definitely will miss it but I am ready for this new adventure.

This is one of my favorite outfits ever. It’s not one of my most “out-there” outfits but one that does mean a lot to me. I bought this graphic tee that says “creative director” almost 2 years ago from Zara and it didn’t feel right to wear as I didn’t feel I was working in that field yet. 2018 has been so good to me and I have had some insane opportunities that I feel like now the time is right. I love the Kansas City skyline in the background with me in the focus. I kind of took that as this city is always on my mind but I need to focus on me and my dreams now.

Thank you for everything, Kansas City. I’ll see you soon.

Metallic Going Out Dress

Good Morning!

This morning, I am bringing you an evening/going-out look to get you through this Monday! A few weeks ago, Forever 21 was having a major sale and I got this metallic teal dress for $6!!! I am always a bit skeptical with shopping online at F21 because their sizing is iffy with my body type. However, it was a perfect fit! I paired it with a sheer black short-sleeve tee from AFRM underneath to edge it up a little bit and some lookalike Louis Vuitton sneaks from IKRush.

Sneakers have been a favorite of mine lately because, not only are they super in style but they make you stand out in a sea of high heels and booties.

I shot these pics with the lovely Abby Liudahl and while we were shooting, we ran out of natural sunlight and had to switch over to using flash. Both of us rarely use flash photography but these turned out so different from both of our regular blog posts, to switch things up a bit.
